Some of us don't want a local gig. Do what ever type of trucking you want and ignore what anyone else opinion is. There's plenty of local work in most places, but some of us aren't interested.
Serious question ,

there's plenty of money to be made without going otr. however, you will either work hours or work odd hours. LTL is a good area to start in. the first half of this year I was only a few hundred bucks shy of 40k doing Linehaul. I started last July.

Food service can get you $60k+ the first year, but it's not easy money. Weird schedules and hard work turn a lot of people away. If you can stick it out until you can get a regular bid, life gets a lot easier.
I can make $100k or more, depending on how much I want to work. The bid I have now will pay me around $70k, but I only log 40-42 hrs/week. -
That depends what you consider good money.Local jobs most pay by the hour,$15.00 to $25.00 an hr.But with no exp you would make their lowest starting wage and work your way up.But there's not alot of local outfits that train like starting companies do.They want ppl with driving exp and then they train you how to do the job like paperwork and such.Doesn't hurt to look but be prepared getting turned away. There are companies that get you home on weekend's and maybe a night or two during the week that train's new drivers. But making real good money not likely. But as long as youre making money to pay bills that's really all that should matter.

There are plenty of drivers out there who wouldnt do anything else but otr. Local driving does not appeal to everyone . leave the house at 4am, get back at 7pm six days a week. No thanks!tucker, Mudguppy, NavigatorWife and 2 others Thank this.

Many local jobs work Mon thru Fri but still sucks. You have more of a life doing OTR then local.

Every rookie has to pay their dues going OTR? Making more money flipping burgers? The first two years you cant be picky where you work? Why do you people continually spew this misinformation? Keep enlightening us with your "Knowledge", it really brightens my day.lagbrosdetmi, sevenmph, Teddy_Salad and 3 others Thank this.

Uh yea I started driving over 12 years ago. It was either a local gig making $8.00 or otr at .21. because I had to prove to them I could do the job. Most jobs are like that. Just cause you have a CDL doesn't mean dick if you don't have experience. And yes after 2 years you can be picky, hell I had companies calling me after I hit 2 years.rachi Thanks this.

Oh yeah I also forgot to add, that min wage in some places is up to $15.00 but here in phx most local jobs are $12-$15.

I found my nitch on regional and getting home weekly for a day or two.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
