well windsmith, I know that no one had to teach you how to swing those van doors, but loading a big piece of machinery on an RGN and then securing it when you've never done any of it before can be quite the challenge and could end really bad if someone doesn't know that they are doing.

just think, would you want your family driving down the road behind that guy who just loaded that machine with no help, and no clue what he was doing?NavigatorWife, MJ1657, Cowmobile and 4 others Thank this. -
Need more drivers like passingthru.Trucking would sure be better then is it now.I had to ask my boyfriend what an rgn was.
critters, mje, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
Nope, and neither would he. That's why he got help, as I would have. Either in person, or from some other reliable source.
mje Thanks this. -
Ive been this guy before and had to ask dumb questions. I would rather ask for help than make a mistake that could hurt somebody or damage equiptment. Guy was a rocket scientist as far asI'm concerned. If somebody asks for my help i always try to help. How do u know you it wont be u behind him when the trailer falls off?

Passingthru,
I commend you for helping a guy out like this. It is seldom that people help out and I wish there were more people of your kind.

I worked for a medium sized company years back, I won't mention the name of. We did a wide variety of hauling, a lot of stuff for the govt.
I was sitting empty for a weekend, with no load, when I get a message to 'help' a new driver with a trailer he was not familiar with.
The driver shows up at the truck stop I was parked at, I talked to him. He had been driving a total of 3 months, had just got out of a trainer truck, and was picking up a load that was going 2000 miles, while I was sitting the weekend with nothing.
To top it off, he had just unloaded...late....and the load he was going to pick up was a sensitive load that required special handling.
While I finished pulling my hair out, I realized some office jerk had made a decision that a .25 cents a mile (back then) driver meant more profit on this long load, than a .37 a mile experienced driver. (20 years ago)
I looked for another job.
I'll help anybody who asks, politely, but I have seen people out there that had no business being in a truck alone. Sometimes it's the fault of whoever gave them the #### keys.
Some things you can't figure out on your own, out here. You can kill people, or do millions of dollars of damage. Common sense doesn't always cover you. Asking for help is ok, but you better hope the person you ask actually knows something. The Challenger and critters Thank this. -
Kudos op.
I know enough about rgn, you don't do these the first time thinking, "gee, Ithink this is how its done."critters Thanks this. -
its seldom that people ask for help that are willing to listen and learn. I have never seen an OSOW guy turn someone down for help.critters and The Challenger Thank this.

it's like passingthru said,it's first initial attitude that determine the amount of help we " old timers " give.
Dieselgeek Thanks this.
