Ive been through many tornadoes growing up in the midwest, I dont get nervous until the sky turns green, it gets light out and then dark out again.

Oh Holy Cow! That's just bad!

Sat for about 20 minutes till things calmed down....when we crested the hill, there were several cars tossed all over the place, and billboards shredded about 300 yards in front of where we stopped. Scared the living POOPS out of me! -
Tornadoes are always alot more nerveracking when you are on the road...They say the safest thing to do is get out of the car/truck and lay in the ditch...But of course youre thinking, I aint getting out of this truck!
Ive had some close calls and seen plenty of tornadoes. Ive seen them throw RVs around like they were Matchbox toys. Oddly enough, I almost enjoy them. Im not stormchaser, but I like thunderstorms alot, and think tornadoes are amazing.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
The string I have been chasing is getting ready to cross into southern Ohio!!! Everyone get ready to duck and cover!!

Guy and I nearly got wiped off the map by one in central Texas back in 04...
We were headed across on some backroad, 1 1/2 lane "highway", when the sky behind us started stacking up clouds and taking on a NASTY green cast.. Now I ain't from around there, but I was raised by an old Okie Grandpa, so I KNOW what that green cast means..
And then our Qualcomm went off..
"Truck Number 55011, take cover NOW! Life and death situation. Find shelter. Rotating thunderstorm approaching FAST!"
Well, we're in the middle of NOTHING! There is nowhere to go. So he just keeps that truck moving.
Next message "Do not care about the truck. Do not care about the load. TAKE COVER NOW!! Tornado imminent!!"
There is still nowhere to go.
Three minutes later, there was an old storm shelter sign along side the road. Quick left turn down a half paved road, and there is an old grain silo...
Pulled the truck in under the awning and made a mad run, following the signs, to a concrete re-enforced basement..
What we didn't know was that dispatch had laid the weather radar over the truck radar, and when we pulled the truck in under the aluminum awning, the truck vanished... about 1/2 a mile from where the tornado set down. And Roger was watching it all on radar!
Dispatch had people out looking for us...1nonly, Wiggle Wagon and otherhalftw Thank this. -
what makes the sky go "green"?
Smoke from fires makes the sky orange....
Serious question.....not my usual S/A self asking here! -
