Shaffer pays extra to go into NY. They are a northeast company for the most part, what did you expect? I used to run from Atlanta to there twice a week and never minded it.

I havent been into NYC, I have done Boston, I have been all over Chicagoland, I have been all over jersey, I have been all over LA and the Frisco/Oakland.

It is amazing how easy it is when you plan your trip and check for low clearences ahead of time. Then all you really have to worry about is driving the truck. That is what I like about my GPS, I can program it with my computer, it allows me to pick exactly the route I want. It doesnt take that long, and it is not hard to do.

I have only wound up with a low bridge clearence problem once, I had to back up about 1/4 of a mile which was fun with all the 4 wheelers running up behind me then getting pissed as they had to go around me. took about 30 minutes.

Got back up to the mouth of the road and I found the warning sign laying in the ditch. Looked like some one had skidded off the road and plowed it over.

I have never been asked to go to NYC, but given the chance I would take a load there. Cant be any more scary than picking up a load in the middle of compton california.

    Lets do the Math.
You signed on with a refrigerated carrier. What did you think you'd be hauling 95% of the time, bricks? (Hint- you'll be hauling food/perishables)
Whats the biggest city in the US? (Hint-NYC)
Do the 8 million plus folks in The Big Apple eat? (Hint- Yup)
Does a refrigerated carrier based in New Kingston Pa (about 2 1/2 hours from NYC going east across I-78) more than likely haul there on a regular basis? (Hint - You bet they do)

Uhhhh.....I pull a spread, I run New York fairly often.

Last load I took in there paid $6500 plus tolls...I thought that was enough.

Hope this is the right place to post this.Driving a truck is a job,and like with any other job,you have certain duties to perform. If you cannot perform these duties, then you are in the wrong place and are not qualified to do the job.I learned a long time ago that you gotta take the bad with the good,to be a truly qualified driver. When I first started driving I was terrified of going into NYC,but then later on after a few trips in and out,I learned that it was no better,or worse than any other city. There are places in NJ that are just as bad,if not worse than NYC.So to make a long story short,ya gotta read your instructions very carefully and follow them right to the T.Case in point,if you are running north on Interstate 95,to the New England area what route do you take.Answer the shortest route is to go ahead and cross the GW,and just follow Intersate 95 right up thru the Bronx. In no time at all you will be into Connecticut, and well on your way.

Most dont know what in the heck a dump valve is, It will make a 10'6" spread turn in places a closed tandem never will.
