NC. And this is only here as a place holder.

Update : I was 100% wrong about Shaffer being reasonable in my re-hire.
I just got off the phone with them and they said that after talking to my Crete manager, I would be required, by SHAFFER, to go back and work that full week underpaid at the Illinois Walmart DC.
I told him I was applying for work in the SE fleet and by no means would accept that blackmail. So my only recourse is to challange the decision by writing to the owner, Dwayne Aklie. But, as with other things, if they are in the wrong as I think they are, then why would I want to fight for a job there. Goodbye Acklie companies. -
What happened, again?

I was a national fleet driver for Crete until 3 weeks ago. They have contract to run local deliveries for WalMart out of the Sterling, IL DC. It is a bad contract and Crete drivers have avoided it like the plague. The contract is set to expire in next month, but in the meantime, Crete will now forcibly take you off your fleet and and require you to run WalMart for a week at $150 day (as opposed to my wage of 45cpm which would earn me roughly $220 a day OTR). I refused and was told I had no options. I said send me home and I quit. Last week Shaffer said they would rehire me on the spot, this week they reneged on that promise after talking to my manager and telling me that in order to get the SE regional position I wanted with Shaffer, I had to first go to IL and do my weeks work at WalMart. I refused to accept his blackmail.

I see.
When running local is this within a 115 mile radius? I take it you still have to live in the truck?
Maybe you should consider marten. -
if you are asking about the local walmart fleet I turned down, yes you live your truck and serve all the area within about 200 miles of Sterling, IL (that includes souther Wisconsin, and Chicago).
I haven't looked at Marten so don't know if they a) have a terminal near Chattanooga b) have local contracts in this area or c) have dedicated lanes that would serve a Chatt based driver - I'll go to their website now though! (I do have offers from Averitt (Knoxville) who have a Chatt terminal, and a smaller outfit here in town that runs ATL / TX. So I will likely have to select one of them in the next day or two. (I had hoped to be back in the Shaffer truck Monday and this new development took me by surprise). -
Sounds like Acklie Company is very desperate to uphold its part of the Sterling bargain.
I think it's pretty low that Shaffer wants you to stay stuck in that Sterling spider web. They should hire you on today and set you out on a long haul tomorrow morning.
Just wait 'em out, I guess, or go to some other "good" company. Good lucking doing finding one.
Crete should just hire a local Yokel and have him do that WM DC job for a month or so. Said Yokel could even sleep in his own bed at home. CCC insiders are idiots for pulling OTR drivers into this Sterling duty.
This Sterling run sounds like a run some of the big companies always seem to have around. They have them around so they can use them to punish their problem children, especially those problem children who are desperate and have no choice but to take the reaming. -
Crete used to have local drivers, but the pay was lousy and they all quit!
I'd be interested to see what Shaffer would do if I re-applied in October AFTER the Sterling account is history, LOL!
I just left Averitt Express here in Chattanooga where I was set up on a tele-interview via webcam with Averitt personnel director up in Cooksville. In the time it took me to drive back home, I have gotten a phone message from my recruiter telling me the interview was fine and they are processing my paperwork to attend orientation Monday. Lower pay rate (36cpm) but a good company with very few bad reviews here (mostly ref OTR dispatching). I'll be running regional with weekend hometime. I good trade-off and possible a company I can stay with til retirement in 10 years.
Thanks to everyone in my several threads for feedback and info!bb.
