I just pull the brakes and look out the passenger window usually. Works pretty well for me. One time blind siding in a very, very tight dock I probably pulled the brakes and checked a good 30 times, sometimes only moving 6-12" at a time. People were giving me funny looks but hitting something always makes you look worse than checking over and over to be sure.

    MNdriver and Onetruckpony Thank this.

I never adjust my mirrors. I have my fender mirrors set kinda wide though. That's about all I use.

Walmart...Automotive section...vanity mirror with 2 cklips that skide right on the visor.

Now I haven't seen this mirror so IDK if it has an arm like a wall mount for a flat screen and is adjustable but heck with the main mirror, the spot and a fender mirror with an additional flat mirror added to the fender mirror then a cheap vanity mirror you should have a fairly good idea as to whats behind you and now with remote controlled cameras blind siding will be easier than any kind of backing!
But give it a few years and all you'll need to do is push a button and go to sleep! It'll back up, walk your paper work into the desk and even count the load for you!

ALL guys that can back up blind side well, can back up on the good side really well, mostly in one shot.
Guys that can't back up on the good side well, can't blind side worth beans.

So practice like crazy on the good side, watch your trailer, and try to get a spacial feeling. Then work on the blind side.
I find if you don't use it alot, you lose it, so back up everywhere you can. The initial set up means alot to a sucessful manouver.
And idle while backing, both sides, that gives you a feeling and you can relate the movement of the S turn on both sides.
I hope I made my point clear, boy, this is hard to explain. (arms failing all over, lol.)
Convex mirrors give you a good idea whats going on back there, but I always set brake and stick my head out the passenger window. Narrow cabs like petes and kw make it easier for me.
Good luck, and practice, practice practice.

My advice is don't EVER trust your spotter on a blind side. If someone offers say thanks and go look.

The only way to get good at the sight side is to put time in. If you can't master the sight side, you won't be mastering the blind side anytime soon.
