Curtain vans. It's a flat bed with a curtain that slides. A lot of step decks(I prefer Over flatbed) easier to get on and off of. Here is my old set up

Most places require an online process nowadays, but I would go very soon afterwards and introduce myself.
Don't expect an interview on the spot. Don't expect to get to see someone in personnel. Hildegaard, at the front desk , more than likely won't let you through , BUT , you will have done more than 95% of other applicants.
Always find a way to make yourself stand out from the others. -
If you enjoy flats try local lumber yards like stock building supply or Carolina lumber.

This thread confuses me.
First you say you wanna go "local" because the old lady wants you home more often. Then you say you wanna go with A&R because they tell you they will get you home every two weeks.
What the hell do you wanna do? You can go with just about ANY regional company and be home every freaking weekend.
If being home every 2 weeks would suffice you AND the old lady...how long do you stay out now for the love of Christ? -

Trucking is hard on relationships. What happens to some guys is that the wife/gf wants them home, so they quit their road job that they really like and hire-on to a local outfit at the bottom of the seniority board. That means starting wages, crap runs, worst hours, lumping freight, etc. Then they're bringing home less money, tired from sporadic shifts, missing their road job, and this puts a serious strain on the relationship. It's why the trucking industry overall has one of the highest divorce rates of all professions.
Once you get established in your local job, build your seniority, bid on a regular run, and get to top-rate than things get better. But making that transition and getting to that point while still keepin them home fires burning can be a real test.runhard Thanks this.
