Only time I as a double clutcher, had a problem with missed shifts was when I was in cdl school till about my second month out..from then on I had my truck's timing down..But I've never driven anything that didn't have an Eaton Fuller trans in it..If I were to hop from that to a mack trans..might have a couple till I got the timing right for that trans..

Doesn't matter which way you shift..if you get used to your truck and what it wants from you you won't miss a shift..But I'll still always double clutch

Idk what happened to me today. It started this morning. Double clutching I was grinding every gear from 6th-10th. All day. I was shifting how I always do, never had a problem before. Now this started. But it got weird when i decided to try floating. I floated 4th-10th and only ground 6th and 9th. Then after that I started floating the high side the rest of today and didn't have a problem.

    I just found that strange.

DD..maybe too slow or too fast on the shifts..or was getting out of time on the clutch movements..?

Without bein in the truck watching you those are the only things I can suggest to watch..

Will do. I'm thinking I was tired this morning and was just off my timing.

I slept horrible last night. It was 75 outside and about 80 in my truck. It wouldn't idle more than an hour even with bypassing the idle shutdown timer. So it was hot!! Lol

Stop by the Iowa 80 or the big (same company owns it..) I 70 and they have more than a few options in there for that..screens for the windows..little trick gadgets that hook onto the sleeper vents to move air..

Most carry the window screens..specially on nice 75 degree nights...

Thanks. Will do. I'm thinking about getting a 12volt fan too. Although I did find out how to make my truck idle for extended periods.

Was it one of those cheap adjustable throttle sticks they sell in the shop? LOL that has always worked for me.

    Newb's,
First learn how to drive the truck corecttly. Plenty of miles to learn the rest. The only time to have your jake on is for slowing the truck, not shifting. All running the jake the rest of the time is advertise that your a newbie.

For the most part I float, but if there is any chance of putting undue stress on the trans, I use the clutch.

Learn to affectively use the clutch and floating will seam like second nature. Never force a gear, lite touch is all thats ever needed. I just turned in my 2007 @ million two on mileage, our shop just pulled the orginal clutch prior to trade in. The t/o brg was replaced @ 650 thousand. Still shifted tight when I trade tractors...

Learn to drive and forget this foolishness regarding floating. Worry about the stuff that matters, first.

You were hurring the shift, you do not decide the truck does. Slight pressure, gently touch the clutch. Try shifting at 1700, see if it helps. And turn off the engine brake.

    heh heh

Drivers double clutch because they never learned to shift without the clutch.

Only a sissy double clutches, and it isn't any harder on the transmission than clutching is.After you learn how, you wont growl a gear at all when you shift, unless its 3 am and you are dog tired, then nothing works right----time to stop and sleep. Just listen to the engine and it will tell you when to shift. You don't need RPM'S except when you are learning how.

    heh heh heh heh

    Peace
