People only think Double Clutching is "cool" because of Vin Diesels STUPID line in the 1st Fast and the Furious movie.

in car racing double clutching is mandatory..

I knew a guy that had a vette that swor up and down he could outrun anything on the road save for a ferrari or supersuper car...

he didn't double clutch..M 10 speed volve from knight trans beat him in a quarter mile bobtail..I never let him live it down..then I taught him how to double clutch that vette's six speed trans...granny shifting "single clutching" in car like that drags the engine rpm down and gets the engine out of its power curve..a vette like to be up at 4 grand or so....they rev to 7

he was dropping the rpms down to 2500 trying to wait on the trans speed to match engine speed when double clutching matched the speeds sooner..allower faster shifts and faster acceleration..LOL

I learned years ago to float gears.left trucking for 27years and only drove on the farm hauling grain in those years and floated gears.a year ago I decided to get back in trucking and went to school to get my CDL.I had a hard time getting the double clutch method down.I would start floating and the instructor would get upset but as I told him..At least I wasn't grinding gears.
I finally got the double clutch down but my thoughts on the matter is if you float or double clutch the main thing is to get the RPM and Speed right.Do that and it will go in gear as smooth as butter.

i dont even know where to start with this one.....There is NO WAY a Big truck is going to beat a Corvette, no matter how they are shifting.

2nd on a normal transmission double cluching makes you look like an idiot and go allot slower

3rd on a I cant think of it now since of course i need to, but on race transmissions like in a Nascar you need to double clutch.

4th What your "freind" should have been doing is Heel toe shifting to do what YOU said he needed to do. Just to save me the work i'll quote the deffinition

    "Heel-and-toe shifting
A related downshifting technique is called heel-and-toe, in which the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. Classically, the brake is pressed with the ball of the right foot and the accelerator pedal is controlled by the right heel, while the clutch pedal is pressed by the left foot. However, many variants are possible, with the brake and accelerator pressed by sides of the right foot.
Proper heel-and-toe technique aids both slowing the vehicle while at the same time accelerating the engine for a matched downshift. Note that neglecting to rev-match in any downshifting scenario can be extremely dangerous, especially in low-traction conditions. Heel-and-Toe may be used with any type of gearbox when simultaneous braking and downshifting is necessary. Though difficult, mastering the heel-and-toe technique in conjunction with necessary clutching is essential for high performance driving (e.g., rally racing) to stay in the optimal gear regardless of the simultaneous braking, accelerating, and clutching required for shifts. This allows the engine to stay in the RPM "powerband" and allows one to drive as fast as possible. Left foot braking while accelerating the engine with the right foot to accommodate downshifting in a clutchless situation accomplishes the same feat.
The purpose of the heel-toe-double-clutch is to downshift into the correct gear, and thus optimal engine RPM, for exiting the corner while placing the least wear and tear on the entire drivetrain. Note that racers will sometimes skip gears during downshifts depending on the vehicle speed. With double-clutching there is no need to shift through every gear when significant velocity has been lost."

but in any event normal shifting in a honda civic with a stock 1.5l 4 banger would still destroy a big truck in a drag race.......so Knight Vulva vs. vett :biggrin_25526:

Not sure about that. I've never seen that movie, yet I still think it's cool (meaning: impressive looking, hard, etc.).

Bullhockey! You can go faster in 1st gear in a Vette then a Knight truck is goverend at...

sheet even a POS honda with a 5 spd can do 50 in 1st gear.....at the red line but still no shifting required.....
