It's pretty embarrassing at first if you've never tried an unsyncronized transmission, even if you're completely comfortable in a 5 or 6 speed car/light truck transmission. Unfortunately you can't practice floating gears in a synchronized car transmission without damaging it. (Well, you can float it out of gear, but not up to the next)

When ya start slowing down to pull into the open scale in your personal vehicle like my dad has done a few times, you'll really know you're stuck on trucking!

I haven't done that yet, but I do find myself peering at the distant sign, to verify if they are open or closed!
