It's pretty embarrassing at first if you've never tried an unsyncronized transmission, even if you're completely comfortable in a 5 or 6 speed car/light truck transmission. Unfortunately you can't practice floating gears in a synchronized car transmission without damaging it. (Well, you can float it out of gear, but not up to the next)

    Lilbit Thanks this.

Why not? I used to shift it this way alot, the first time was out of habit from being in the truck too long and forgetting i was in the car. After that i did it when i was lazy.

Guilty on all 3 accounts....floating a synchro, kicking floor, and looking for hi range.

When ya start slowing down to pull into the open scale in your personal vehicle like my dad has done a few times, you'll really know you're stuck on trucking!:laughing-guffaw::laughing-guffaw:

I haven't done that yet, but I do find myself peering at the distant sign, to verify if they are open or closed!

"What are you looking at? "Who cares?" - my wonderful wife, haha

I suggest you go on YouTube and enter "double clutch'. There are a few video tutorials.

Sounds easy, all the ones here in CA have 2 lines of words for either message:

    SCALES CLOSED
    DO NOT ENTER

    -or-

    ALL TRUCKS
    STOP AT SCALES

From a distance, its hard work!
