Pete you summed it up for all. I give kudos for whoever uses a jake, especially at 2AM by a gated community as those people can be royal pain in the ###e$. If someone wakes me or my family, than thats awesome. While they may moan in the morning, I remind them that a trucker is reducing wear and tear on vital equipment. I'd like to know how much money a trucker will save by using his or her jake.

i dont put alota thought into the sound but i run with mine on always, unless its snowing or rain of course. its no great trick to shifting with em on you just need a touch of pressure on the throttle and they dont engage as you shift. same thing in parking lots theres no reason you need the jakes going off unless you want them to.

We have several gated communities are Murell road and wickham and it bug the living crap outta of them but I love it. I am sure every trucker does as most get to see a gated community on the outside.

    Lol wow.
so basically you are saying that if I dont use the Jakes, Im going to shorten the life of my brake pads by half, two thirds? I dont know of any statistic out there that shows how much the jakes save in terms of life of brake pads. Heavy use of brakes greatly reduces their life span, but thats if you constantly jam on them instead of braking normally.
If you disagree thats one thing, but leave the childish crap out. Last thing I need is someoen calling me a supertrucker when I offer an opinion that goes against someone elses. Especially the "since Im an Owner Op, Im a better driver than you, you hood-taker-offer, you" attitude.
And I do have them on my truck, with the muffler as well so you its noise is reduced greatly when I do choose to use them. I mainly dont use them for the fact that I dont encounter situations where I need to use them and they also reduce fuel mileage.

Well I don't know statistics of how much the jakes save on brake pads, but I would aggree that I bet if you didn't jake you would loose a 1/3rd of your life span. ANYTIME you step on those brake pads you are burning the brakes off of it, just a matter of time before they wear out. And how do you figure you get worse fuel mileage with jaking? Here is another question, do you jake when driving down a mountian?
