X what im basically doing is double clutching when downshifting i sometimes struggle with not getting the rpms up high enough. Upshifting I'll push in the clutch shift to neutral then try to shift into the next gear. I think im trying to hold it in neutral a little too long with the clutch depressed letting the rpms drop too much
-
x1Heavy Thanks this.

What im doing is clutch neutral then trying to shift but by holding the clutch in without releasing it im letting the rpms drop too much. What i need to do is clutch shift to neutral then clutch again and try to shift.
-
Basically all im doing is clutching into neutral then trying to float it into gear with the clutch depressed

No no no. Clutch, heartbeat or two shift get off clutch so you can apply power.
Staying in clutch after shift means no power, no go. Slowing down time.... -
So clutch shift to neutral then clutch again then shift into next gear. Its clutch shift to neutral then wait a heartbeat or so and clutch again then shift. What i keep doing is clutch shift to neutral wait a second or two then shift without releasing the clutch

If youre trying to shift without releasing clutch, it's not going to work.
That is what you do driving a car. A car you can hold clutch in shift and let it out. Those transmissions are in syncronious speed with the engine where possible as you shift. The engineering has been ... dumbed down so that most people can just shift to this gear or that gear.
Trucks are not syncronized. If you took a big truck out of gear, that transmission is going to maintain a certain spin that is not matching the engine, it is your job to match it which is why you double clutch.
Floating and so on are small tricks that are a acquired when you grow enough feathers and become skilled enough to do it. Done right everything is matched just so and the truck does not realized what is going on up there. But it has to be done just so. It's a thing of beauty. -
My class mate doesn't double clutch when upshifting he goes clutch neutral then shifts into next gear without a pause between neutral and the next gear its a 1 2 3 maneuver with him. Clutch neutral gear all in one motion he does pretty good. That's how i did it in the yard going to third

I say this. Shift that thing and do it well. You will be tested by the DMV one of these days. If your shifting is adequate there will be no problem. Keep that in mind.
Sometimes people fight the shifting and cannot learn it. Others is not that hard, the problems lie elsewhere potentially undetected.
