That is how I transitioned from double clutching to floating the gears. I can't remember if I let the clutch out before I shifted into the higher gear or not.....been too long ago.

    no.

To Float means no clutch at all. Gently take two finger tips on the stick, move it out of gear at the correct precise RPM at torque for your engine (Look up the engine power curve chart it should have your torque RPM for that engine and a high horsepower RPM at the top prior to redline as power falls off...)

Slide it quickly and smoothly into the next gear down when you have your engine rpms at high cruise or high horse. She will have completed a no clutch down shift for you.

Going up in a gear means to have the engine at high cruise, slip that stick out and quickly just when that RPM touches torque your next gear should already be in. And shes made that upshift.

It's something useful back in the day when clutches were out of adjustment and they would literally leave you with nothing to use as the clutch pedal layed on the cab floor. Do you understand?

Nudge the clutch. It's all about the nudge.
You just nudge it to come out, ease up, a lil' deeper on the pedal to go back in.

Something else to remember is to never ever push the clutch in all the way when the truck is moving. This will destroy what is known as your "clutch brake". Without this, it's nearly impossible to to get your truck in gear from neutral.

Yeah i understand ill try it like i did on the yard i did good with that method of pushing in the clutch and quickly shifting to neutral and the next gear if that don't work ill try double clutching

You are going to have to learn sometime.

We had none at all. Until we hit my first employer who had them. BINGO! Kitty PETE waking up call to a town brapbrapbrapbrapbrap at 6 am.... coming in to deliver. He he... The regulars probably quit hearing it long ago.

There is a little trick to good jacobs.. er jakes.. you have it on and you can take off in first, as you come out of first towards second, be quick you will hear her snort and the rpms drop like instantly. You need to be in second and adding fuel in about a heartbeat.

You can walk off from everyone else this way. But to me... it's a little unnecessary.

What I like is at the auction house with the older air breathers, switch jake to stage three, rev it around 1500 take off hammer. You will literally hear the individual exhaust valves like a bell. Those who don't know what is going on run away. Those who do stay and hollar, stop fooling with the people LOL.
