how about the flatbedders that don't get paid for tarping??????????????????

the company collects. and if the company is decent enough. they give $25 to the driver. but most aren't that decent.

i've heard loads paying anywhere from $100 to $500 for tarp. and most drivers get nothing. but hot and sweaty for free.

I disagree that it is a problem with all of us . Manyof us get detention time and pay for load cancellations . Anyone that is continually sitting hours without pay needs to find another carrier and maybe another segment of the industry .
With tanker many of my loads are preloaded . Many loads are drop and hook. When I do have a live load or unload it takes less than 2 hours. Beyond that I get detention time .
A few times I got over 24 hours detention time.

And that's why I got out of reefer.
But I still get stuck doing Flatbed and more often than not, I'm bumping up on 14 before 11.
I run legal, but a lot of guys let it get to them and get creative..its human nature.

How about loads that are supposedly tarped by somebody else and you still spend an hour securing it because all they did was flop the tarps over the side!
    Stupid pre loads......

That's how the Big Blue Screw did it when I was with them. Driver got $20 total, company charged 80-100. The company I'm with now gives me $20 on, $20 off, and $15 for every stop; that includes first pickup.

IMO, anything over 2 hours at a shipper or consignee we should be allowed a once daily pause to our 14 if needed. Once daily so as our employer couldn't abuse the exception like we all know they would. Too many times all of us have severely limited income days at absolutely no fault of our own.

I think an appointment time that is given is to be honored. Any time spent on the premise should be paid at hourly rate and shipper paying for it. Would keep them honest and the companies as well.

There should be no time given to an employer for free.

Their office staff, the managers and so forth do not ever work for free.

Talking about Honesty. How about when your employer tells you the appt is at 10:00 and you roll in there at 09:30 only to have the shipper tell you the appt is for 11:30. Everyone lies to the driver.

The last company I drove for, would tell you that you had to be there 2 hours before the appointment time and then you found it to be 2 hours later and that they do not pay detention time until 2 hours after the REAL time.

    CAXPT Thanks this.

I'm surprised people haven't caught on to the real purpose of the 1a.m. - 5 a.m. breaks during a restart . FMCSA knows some drivers need to work during these hours . The purpose of these rules is to help the Teamsters reduce the hours of nonunion workers. FMCSA doesn't expect carriers to work with these rules. They expect the carriers to reduce driver hours so a restart isn't needed. Teamsters fought the new HOS in court and lost the case and appeals. The Teamsters then contributed over $2 million to Democrats in 2008. Then Frank Lautenberg. (D. , NJ) comes in demanding a "review" of the HOS . Google Lautenber and the teamsters together and see why Lautenberg demands what he does.
