I work for a company that leases trucks and or drivers to other companies. I was sent to a private manufacturer the other day because they needed an extra truck for the day. I get to the dock and report to the dock supervisor and tell him who I am and what I'm there for.
His response was, I don't care who the puck you are, or who the puck you work for. I asked, what's your name ? His response was you don't need to know my pucking name, just back in to dock # 4.
I thought to myself for a moment, I would really like to give this guy an attitude adjustment right here in front of everybody. But I knew if I did I would no longer have a job, so instead I called my company and let them know I wasn't going to be putting up with this type of bull all day.
They told me just to let it go and forget about it. I later met the Arses boss and let him know I didn't appreciate the way the guy was talking to me, and I repeated what the guy had said. His boss says yeah we get a lot of complaints about him, but he gets the job done. I let him know if it happened again I would be leaving. His response was the same as my companies, just let it roll off and forget about it.
My question is, how do you guys and gals deal with the disrespect from dock employees ? And why are truck drivers expected to put up with someone acting like this guy? I worked for thirty years in non driving positions and this type of behavior would never have been tolerated.:biggrin_25512:

I do it, because I will not likely see that person again. So yes, I let the importance of the load outweigh the inability of the Dock crew to be nice.

Some people just can't be nice, It might kill them.

Tough situation especially if you consider this a good job--even more so in toda's economy
I also(when I was much younger)would have considered knocking him on his ###--
So there for I'll pass one of the best proverbs an ol timer told me so many years ago
"It's mind over matter--I don't mind cause you don't matter!"
I know it isn't much--but that along with my knowledge that in a short amount of time I'll be a hundred miles down the road--smiling--and YOU will still be stuck with your miserable self!
    just my $.02

Well not sure how I would have handled it. Guess it depends on how much I liked my job, how long I've been there, how easy it would to get another job BUT...........I think you handled the situation in a professional manner and your employer should give you a raise immediately. It's too bad that people can act like that and have it be acceptable because "he gets the job done". You could also write a letter to the higher ups in that company but in the short and long run that might not bode well for you. Good job

Smile and say 'Have a blessed day' and walk away.. back into your dock and go to sleep while he has to load you.

depends on my mood---mostely i treat them the way they treat me--i definately will start off nice and friendly --but in the situation like yours--its hard to tell the guy to go f himself---but i probabely would have
many times on multi drops i have had recievers say they are to busy--that i have to wait----if i am tight for time i usually just say fine--it will stay on the truck and go back to the terminal --but i have no idea when you will get it---that seems to hurry them up a bit

No doubt right..haha.. I guess it's that misery loves company thing..

As I'm sure you've found, one of the best things about running a route is your daily customers that you get to know - that's the one thing I really miss from my P&D days..

Kill him with kindness! Mentioning it to his boss,AND your boss was a good idea.

I used to do the same kinda thing, basically a rent-a-driver. I really enjoyed it, didn't pay a whole lot, but it was fun for a while.

Go against the grain and do something like buy him breakfast off the lunch wagon. He's an A-hole and knows he's an A-hole. So when someone does something completely off the wall, he'll respond differently. It's human nature.
