My 92 pete with a 3406 cat has been having trouble starting. Took her in and the shop charged me 1700 bucks to adjust the injector timings 6 degrees.
My question is, was this a fair price, or should I be finding a new go-to shop? Thanks.
Shop adjusting injector timings.

Did it fix the issue? They likely had to do some testing to come to that conclution. Sight glasses on fuel lines to check for air and what not.

1700 for overhead, sounds pricey. If they checked and reprogammed trim codes and fixed other things to get truck running, maybe. Need an itemized bill to double check.

The name PETE or CAT means you expect to pay more, so they charge more. not trying to be funny, but true I.M.O.

It's a 92. No trim codes or CPU to reprogram. It's mechanical with either an a or b model. -
hmm.. thanks, I was thinking newer. forgot to read..

Injector timing means they removed the fuel pump timing advance. Pined both and moved the crank timing. That all takes time. Especially to get it right.

I'd like to do one of them a day at that price, you got any more like that? I'm sure there are a lot of other older mechanical people who would jump on the band wagon, as well. Way too d@mn much for a 1/4 hole advance, IMO. Btw, you have nozzles on that engine, not injectors. Your injection pump does the high pressure compression, the nozzles atomize the spray into the cylinders. Unless, you have had an engine swap to a later model electronic. I don't want to make you feel bad, but I would have set your static timing up 6 degrees for about a tenth of the price you paid, if it's an old mechanical. If it's a mechanical, as far as the question about the shop, here's what I would say, Run Forrest, Run.
After my head popped out of my rear, is this a PEEC engine? 8PN or 4CK prefix? Even if, $1700.00 is way too extreme.Last edited: Jul 29, 2014

don't take no $1700 dollars worth of time hour maybe

I agree with that. Usually you need to have a good pedigree and an initial for your first name to make that kind of money. I said a tenth of price paid, and I would feel like a robber baron for charging someone $170 bucks for the procedure. I guess on my side of the country, Rush and the Larson Group got the pedigree. MHC on the KW side.
