I never saw a shop bill without that fee but you're right, nobody ever posts it on their shop rates either. Best way to avoid it is to DIY but it seems like I never have enough of them $30 for a bag of 50 red shop rags and $4.50 (on sale!) cans of brake parts cleaner. All that BS adds up quick but I bet shops don't pay retail like I do and they get much better pricing on parts too.

I would have still said $35 in shop fees is ridiculous for a 5 minute job but I wouldn't have been upset because at least it was disclosed to me prior to agreeing to do the job.

I had to get it done regardless.
The hiding of big fees until after the job is done is the part that I feel is messed up.

Not to mention Thousands invested in software and electronics just to diagnose engines and transmissions in this day and age. The shop I worked for was an independent shop , so Detroit, Cat , Navistar , Allison , Cummins , Wabco , Bendix , and the list goes on and on.

Not arguing but I’ve saw technology fees as well! It’s all good, trucking industry no matter what area is one big hustle. That’s business and life I guess.

    #1. 35$ is not a "large" fee
    B. The reason they can do they job in 5 minutes is because they have the part, the tools, the location and the people to do it.
#3 don't like the big fees? Buy all the tools and do it yourself.
    F. Every 5 minute job is one stripped part away from being an all day affair

Dude they replaced an airline with one that I purchased.
What $35 in shop supplies did they use up in 5 minutes? I saw nothing.

If you read I said it's not so much the $35 but rather they hid this fee from me until the very end.
Even when I asked then how much will it cost to get this done, they withheld telling me the shop fee.

So which shop are you a mechanic at?

Why didn't you replace the air line yourself?

Don't carry the tools with you to do simple tasks like that?

More fun to post another whinge thread on TTR?

Just consider it the Fuel Surcharge of the shop world and go on and enjoy life.
