ok i asked a highway patrol officer at a truck stop near there today. he told me that on the county roads the weight limit on the bridges in question is the weight limit per pillar on the bridge but it can vary from county to county, so i need to contact the county. i called the county sherifs department and they told me its the weight limit on the bridge not the total gross vehical weight but the load on the bridge.
the highway patrol officer said that on interstates and state highways the signs are total gross weight but county roads are differnt and what they mean by there weight limits can vary from one county to the next and that sometimes he has a hard time getting a straight anser out of them as well. -
Of course Im joking.

If I had a dollar for every time I made a turn only to find out two miles down the road trucks my size aren't allowed there.

At least states like New Jersey are more 'truck friendly' in this aspect and color code what streets they want CMV's on. -
you can research any state weight limit restrictions/bridge online w/ printable map .pdf form.

Also the NJ laws require notice [signs] of a light bridge at a place that lets you choose a different route [last intersection b/4 the bridge no matter how far] before they can enforce the weight limit.

I picked up epsom salts at a plant in Waynesville, NC and the directions, supplied by the company, routed trucks over a small bridge rated below 40 tons.

dont understand, dosn't the modern cowboy trucker have cell phones and all sorts of neet toys like gps and stuff in the bunk to tell guide them, and if a company a driver have a quilcom with gps and stuff on it , for me i went over some in wi, on dirt, gravel roads, just too deliver flowers too way out in the sticks green house, some bridges are barley wide enuff for the tractor and even with just the tractor i was way overweight, but what i did was, i stop before the bridge , get out and look, i would look at how it was made, if its a round over brick like out east, i knew i was okay, or they converted a steam train bridge into a bridge with wood planks, thanks ohio, wife said no way, and she walked across behind me as i clappared across real slow , it was nice sound , kinda erie as the board s floped and stuff.

What did you do in that situation? An aspiring newbie wants to know!
I mean in a big rig you cant really do a 3 point turn like a 4 wheeler right, so what do you do back-up 10 miles?

Just what we need... another color code system. Now I don't know if that means we're in danger of a terrorist attack, the bridge is not rated for my truck or my grandson can't watch that movie.
Sheesh!
