My wife thought I was nuts too. But the pay was horrible.

Dispatch is always comical. Last night for instance.

Called fire and ems for possible hit by train. Dispatcher had sent officer over first. Never said where for us to go but to get on scene and standby. We had to spend 5 minutes on phone to figure where to standby. Got there, and found a bunch of kids looking around at us.

Seems a girl had runaway from home down the tracks. Called out county rescue and dog search teams. Drove the tracks looking for someone.

Result. She was found walking down the tracks about 3 miles away ducking from sight.

what? <gasp> what was provided to dispatch wasn't dead-on accurate?

I did dispatch myself for a while (911, etc). It was always fun to talk to the deputies later and find out what *really* happened.

We don't need anymore gov interference in our line of work. I am not for a national speed limit. I mostly drive a daycab and run to des moines and cedar rapids from the twin cities. If i was goverend at 65-68 i wouldn't make it home in time. I can run the 16hr rule because i return to my point of origin at night, but it gets to be a long day. Now some on here say it would be good to stop those renegade drivers who run 90-100. There is a BIG difference in running 72-75 and running 90. I run about 72-75 on I35 and this makes my day go by a lot faster. If i hit a head wind going north back to MN my little old straight truck won't even do 68 and it takes me forever to get home. I can't sleep in a hotel "so i'm told" because we carry haz mat and i can't leave the truck. My truck is also leased so we can't get another bunk truck until the lease is over.
