Know a guy who went to school for advertising got a job found out he hated it {this was almost 20 years ago} and runs his own landscaping company. Asked him if he ever thought he would be in landscaping... NOPE but it pays the bills and makes you old in a heck of a hurry. I cant believe refueling is any harder and im sure your making much more than an regular landscape laborer

    Diesel Direct....perhaps...??

if so, i didn't like that work either, but i am older as well, and lugging that hose to (how about 40 trucks at ONE location * Waste Management*) wasn't my idea of a good job either....as i had to go get the mechanic to raise the bodies of trucks to get to the fuel tanks....fun...huh...????

or how about the Fall River/New Bedford area near the water for those fish delivery trucks, and the RATS that come up from under the trucks...

go back to school, work part time as a (perhaps) home heating oil delivery or a yardman's job (check the Norwood area *University Ave*), and get your degree...heck, just an associates degree can get you an inside job at a trucking company.

In this economy there's definitely no guarantee that a 4 year college degree will lead to a desk job.

I have a 4 year degree and have completed about 80% of a MBA program. I've been doing "lower end" distribution / warehouse work for 20 years and love it! I hate sitting at a desk all day. Been there... done that... no fun! :biggrin_25512: I love it when the "big wigs" come and ask me... the "lowly" dock worker... questions about corporate stuff they can't figure out themselves.

Do what you love... not what other people want you to do. Also be "versatile" and willing to accept changes in the job market as needed.

You can't always get paid to do what you love. I am a volunteer firefighter. I couldn't imagine getting paid for it. I see the career guys that have been doing it for less then 5 years treating patients like crap. They get paid $54,000 a year (starting pay) to work 9 days a month and they don't care. After a while even something that you love will become a job. You have to find something that you can see yourself doing to make the training required worth while. There's always weekends to relax and get ready for another week...except for the "honey do" list

What job requires you to work 9 days a month and have a starting pay of $54K?

I got my 'degree' at the DMV too. Never went to college. I dont regret it a bit. Hang in there. I'm not saying college is bad, its not at all. But life is about choices, and I hope that things get better for you and the choice you made. I dont blame you a bit for choosing what you did, I did the same thing.

This sounds just like me....when I first started driving I had to remember to focus on my own rig and not drool too long at the nice o/o rigs out there, lol.

I'm 22 and I'm getting a CDL and become a trucker, I like OTR because I dont own a house and I dont have many friends so it's cool, I used to work in a chinese restaurant 12-13 hours a day, 6 days a week for $2700 for 3 years, and live free in the boss's house, and food is free too, but it's very tiring and rucking is better, less hours and live for free too, except the food.
