Company driver here. My company set me up for forklift training last Monday. I had to leave my home around 3AM and drive 4 hours to be there by 7:30AM. I spent 2 hours training and then drove 4 hours back the same direction to go pick up my load for the day. Once loaded, I then went and delivered 4 hours away and was done for the day.
I was told I will be $19/hour for the two hours training. My questions is, should I request to be payed for the commute to and from training as well? Driving 8 hours for a 2 hour training session only to make about $40 does not sit right with me.
Should I be compensated for commute to 2hr training session?

Speak to the manager or other responsible person, point out the facts outlined here. Maybe they will make it a bit better. And if not, consider the lesson learned.MOBee, 104itsjared and tscottme Thank this.

It would have been better to ask before you did all that. Now that you gave them what they wanted, you better hope they feel generous.MOBee, nredfor88, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this.

Were you driving the truck when you went to get forklift training?

Ya I would be asking for more money. In fact I would have inquired before the trip. Just to save myself $50 bucks in fuel/wear and tear on the vehicle and other expenses. If it wasn’t mandatory then I wouldn’t have take it. If it was mandatory I’d be asking for money for time.
MOBee Thanks this. -
From what I read, you drove a company truck to the training site and back to get loaded. That's on duty driving, so yes, you should get paid for driving.
