Someone on here had a quote in their signature line that read: "Chrome won't get you home...but it sure looks good on a hook."
I don't even want one of those big, flat-nosed, square-box overdone, heavy, fuel-guzzling behemoths. I'll add a little bling to my little ol Farmall and be plenty happy with it.
If Hollywood and bling are what have you hooked, here's what ya do: Go find somebody's old junker 359 Pete that Granpappy used to drive back in the day and when he blew the motor, he parked it out in back. Now that Granpappy passed away, they need to clear the property for sale and will be happy to sign that old rustbucket over to you just for getting it out of there. Restore it and make it what you want to make it. Then take it around to the truck shows.
You'll get your share of "vacation," have something you put yourself into, be able to live your dream and still have an income via construction.
Should I be making the switch?

Wow. Talk about taking the wind out of a sail. Feels like a big swift kick in the ### for me to wake up. Judging by your coments I believe what your saying, you won't have to drag me over th coals again. But I still would like to furfil at lease part of the dream. Do you know anyone that would take on paid help? Meaning iLL pay an owner operator my weight in fuel or something to be apart of a road trip and help to load/unload etc. I wouldn't be there to watch but to work without pay.

A man ought to pursue his dreams.
Just know that the chromed out truck isn't the bulk of the industry and keep your tools in case it doesn't work out.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
Hey man, like Rerun said "it's work" and #### hard work! Stressful work! Endless work! No time away from it work! You get the point. Is it for you? Possibly. Never going to know unless you try it. Ask yourself this, on your death bed are you going find yourself saying " I wish I tried truck driving"? From my point of view it sounds as if it maybe for you. You definitely have the fantasy part of it down pat! Personally I think its the greatest, worst job! I say go for it! What do you have to loose right! At the very least you will have memories and stories for the rest of your life and you will have gotten it out of your system. (at least for a couple months!)
Do your research first! Good luck!

I'm not saying it would be impossible to find somebody to ride with, but it may be a lot harder than you think. For a couple of reasons. First off, I believe that most insurance carriers are going to frown on having somebody riding who is either not employed by the trucker (trucker's company,) or related to the trucker. A lot of companies do have ride along programs, but they are usually for immediate family only, (as far as I know.) The second thing is you may run into problems with DOT regulations here. I'm not sure of this though.
I do believe that if you could find someone to ride with for a bit, that it would be a good idea. I just don't know if it will work out or not.BigJohn54 Thanks this.
