If you want a 40-hour week job--you really need to simply find another govnmt job.

Those same nuts/whackjobs you're sick of.....are simply sharing the nearby pavement with you...if you get into trucking.

Moreso of late....some of those nutjobs also have a CDL, as well....:(

A little over 40 hours a week probably worth it to be in the solitude of the truck and on the road.

Government job is about the only place you're going to find a 40 hour week, if that's a deal breaker you better just stick with what you got.

My company has 3 types of driver jobs. 7 days a week and you do 34 hour reset on the road every week. 5 days a week and your home 2 days a week. They even have 3 days driving and 4 days off. The next week you work 4 days and have 3 days off. You share the truck with another driver. So for the 3 on 4 off deal, the company truck is running 7 days a week two drive share the truck and get more home time.

I do the 5 days on 2 off every week and work 50-60 hours a week. I take the truck home every week. They just find a load delivery near my house. Once empty I drive truck home. I would say most drivers work 11-14 hours a day. We can drive 11 hours per day and work 14 hours a day.

Are you throwing away a government pension..how much longer do you have? If so wait and get that pension then try trucking..I almost quit a few times but stuck it out and got my pension...looking back I am glad I did.. It will enable you to come and go from trucking if you need to, that's what I do. As far as what you are going to enjoy more, you will like trucking a lot more after a govt job. Yes trucking has it's frustrations but not near as bad as dealing with the backstabbing dickheads in govt work

40 hour job and less dealing with public and is considering being a truck driver. Never laughed this hard in my life.

Become a trucker if you can answer yes to most of these questions.

    1. Can you sit for 10 hours a day every day?
    2. Can you be alone for great lengths of time?
    3. Hate your family or have no desire to make one?
