Should I become a trucker?

Look at it this way Wade; every day you live is one day less you have left to live. I say go for it. You can still have your internet, television, computer in the truck. Many trucks interiors today look like a office/bachelor pad. Go to a good CDL school that's 160 hrs. or longer and don't apply to the usual suspects trucking companies. Go for a good company that has APU's so you can enjoy your TV, computer, etc. on down time.

Before you jump ship, get a DOT physical to make sure there's nothing wrong to keep you from acquiring a CDL; blood pressure, high sugar levels, etc.

Check the sealiftcommand website; maybe something there for you. Civil service job, travel the world, retire in 20 yrs.

Thanks Chinatown! I agree I need an APU. I don't think I could do without a TV or computer. I suppose if I at least had internet access on my phone I could get by without going crazy for a while. My hometown has a community college that offers a CDL course, so that would be my plan if I decide to go. I hear you are the guy to talk to about companies. Any recommendations for central illinois?

Get your CDL first like Wooly said. Then plan your exit strategy like Dinomite said. If it doesn't work out, with your management experience and new found trucking experience, you might be able to get back into a paying job as a logistics manager somewhere.

If you want to be a trucker you need to tell yourself that this is what you are going to do and #### what anyone has to say about it. Nobody is going to hold your hand through this.

Drive a 60 mph truck up and down dangerous snow covered hills and those 50 mph winds will have you holding on to the steering wheel for dear life. Your itch won't last long buddy I promise you. You got guys with monkeys in their trucks, and you have dudes with Camero's being chased by texas county mounty's. You don't want none of this action. I guaranteeeee it.
