Should I even bother trying again?

Many folks are slow to understand that the jobs they lost aren't coming back. Instead they wait and wait for things to just get better so they can get back to their "old" lives. Well, in the "new world order" those jobs are gone for good. These days, you had better be ready to retrain and start over more than once in your life.
Community colleges offer many vocational programs that lead to certifications or associates degrees in fields where the jobs are, and the costs are still relatively inexpensive. Grants and student loans are available to help with the bills.
But, you're looking at a year or two of schooling, versus a few weeks to get your license and get in the truck. The sad thing is, you could have paid a couple of years tuition at a community college for what you've spent on a trucking school that seems to be taking you nowhere.
There seem to be a lot of people who want to jump into that truck as that quick fix.
Good luck!applebrown78 Thanks this. -
Unfortunately, I am in a catch 22. I don't have any way to support my family while I am in school for 2 years. And if I did, I wouldn't need to go to school.
Also, with the $6500 The CDL School loan required, taking on further debt is not an options. WIA only came up with $1500 towards the CDL.
As for my background, I went to DeVry and graduated many years ago. I also have quite a few computer certifications and now a CDL. Nothing seems to be helping right now.
Having a wife and two kids means relocation is out of the question. -
I have been dropped by a company in school too. No real reason just said work verification. I oam checking into community colleges to instead of driving schools.
-
Having a wife and 2 kids DOES NOT mean relocation is out of the question. That would be you and/or your wife deciding that no matter what, you refuse to move. I have a wife and 2 kids, and I know if we so choose, we can pick up and move wherever our little hearts desire.
As for the certs, what do you have? MCSE? CCNA or CCNE? Network+? Give me some info. -
How's your driving record?
-
As for moving, you are delusional if you think the average person can just up and move. We are in a lease. We have NO money to use to move or a down payment on an apartment or a house. And move to where?
As for my driving record, I have a car accident on it from June of last year and that's it, but that's enought to keep me out of most trucking companies. -
There are non-CDL jobs out there, too. Don't be too proud to drive a 26k box truck, if that's available. I had a one year license suspension because a payment I made for a speeding ticket was one day late, and I got pulled for a DOT inspection without realizing my payment arrived late, and my license had been suspended because of it. The end result was an ensuing one year suspension. It's a crappy situation to be in, but, guess what... I was in a position where I couldn't stay where I was and drive a truck, either, so I had to figure something out. I worked a couple menial jobs until I took a trip to South Africa, got my EC license there, and drove trucks there for 18 months. I was fortunate that it worked out. But you'd better believe if it had come down to me having to flip burgers to get by, you're #### skippy I'd have done it - and I don't have a wife and kids.
I'm sorry for your situation. I really am. But hanging out in the unemployment line is doing absolutely no good for your family. I don't know about you, but if I had a family, and the only job available to keep them afloat was to walk dogs through the gates of hell, then just give me a minute to break out the Summer attire, and I'm there. -

That aside, you may have the face the fact that the trucking industry may not be in the cards for you at this point in your life. Rather than beat your head against a brick wall, try applying that energy to something else. No, I don't have an answer as to what that might be, but I think you have demonstrated that the trucking biz isn't it.
