in due time, Californification will drop into the sea, it even did so in the movie, 2012, so it has to be true, and only a few months away from now!!!
Getting my passport together was instrumental in me getting hired on with System and out on the road in my own truck in short order.... course now I sleep in Canada more often than I sleep in the US.
I did get a passport card. It wasn't too hard to get. The last company I worked for, and my current company pay an extra "border crossing pay" when going to Canada. And this one also pays a driver with a passport .01cpm more than a driver without one, for all miles, whether in Canada or not. I think it pays to have it.
I would wait... I applied to at least 40 companies while I was in school - seemed that at least 20% of them would pay for passport/hazmat/twic after I got hired...
I spent all that money (that I spent lol) on HAZMAT and never got the endorsement. In my thread "What do ya'll think?" I have been posting about how slow/low paying work is. Well, after I talked to my Dist. Manager Thursday, he asked me if I had a passport. Because IF I did ( I don't ) then I would have been in Canada this week hauling bulk cement to Chicago while the RR's were on strike. food for thought I'll be gettin mine ASAP
BlackLions I disagree on the Hazmat. Its better to have all the endorsements you can get.Like someone posted earlier it gives you more options. Also one wouldn't have to wait for a new license from the DMV. As far as the Passport and TWIC I agree with you. There's a but with it. I have heard some states will let a driver get Hazmat and TWIC at the same time for one price. I would check with your State's DMV on that. If allowed to do so I would recommend getting both at the same time.
