Should I get a TWIC card

Must have TWIC to enter most chemical companies, not just ports.

 

if you can afford it i would say go ahead and get it,,,i worked for prime and they go "or" went alot to the ports in south jersey and like ezx1100 said better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

 

Sorry can’t answer your TWIC Q. I’d say if you can spare the cash, get it.

I would like to comment on your future employer.

Don’t sell your self short, while your waiting to hear from Prime, start hitting up some of the dream carriers jobs and see what happens. Your waiting anyway, and I hear many smart people around here say “the good companies don’t need to advertise for workers” .

This is incorrect info. No Matter WHO pays for the TWIC, it is your PERSONAL PROPERTY once issued to you!! No One can require you to surrender your TWIC but the TSA people who issue. Twic badges are used for Port entry and some Military Bases are using them as well.

 

I, too, am going to Prime as soon as I graduate with my CDL. My recruiter told me that they will front the money for a TWIC and take it out payroll deduct in small increments. Same goes for a passport, as I do not have one.

Guess my last company lied to me then & that form I signed was a forgery or false document the company made up. I really don't care. Had to give it up for my last paycheck there. I was required to show TWIC at some chemical companies & all port facilities. No need to beat a dead horse.

 

One advantage to getting it on your own would be that if you knew you were going to get on with a company that goes to port, or chemical plants, you would already have it.

That would make you more marketable than someone who doesn't have it. Also saves the company time and money from having to either wait or pay for your TWIC card.

 

And that many times is the difference between those that get jobs and those that might get better jobs. If a carrier has two equally qualified candidates for a position that requires a TWIC credential and one applicant has a TWIC card and the other doesn't but WILL apply for it>who are they most likely going to hire? The applicant that can start as soon as they need him to!

 

I also like in NC and I'd like to point out that NONE of the smaller companies have insurance to cover new drivers. I've applied at HUNDREDS of these so called mom and pop companies and have been told no HUNDREDS of times because of insurance requirements. If you do know of one around here who will hire a 23 year old with 4 months experience please let me know!
