I've recently got my CDL and I've been looking at different companies, and all honesty I do not want to go with a mega (My goal is oilfield work, and I do currently work for Amazon Logistics). I have over two years experience as a yard jockey and over a decade in experience in heavy equipment. Should I go ahead and apply to some of these companies that require experience? Just looking for some advice

I mean............what do you have to lose? They will either take you in or not....not all megas are bad. At the end of the day, regardless of where you go it will always come back to what you put into it

There's never been a better time to put in applications to places where you don't meet the requirements.

I applied for a place that wanted 2 years experience and they hired me with barely any experience at all. They still giving me a check every Friday, it’s crazy

Apply to any company you want. Many companies can bend their rules on hiring qualifications.
    ~
Estes Express is an example. One driver hired right out of cdl school and another hired with only 6 mos. experience. Odds were against those hires, but a few minutes submitting an application anyway, paid off. The worst that could have happened is, "Get back to us when you have a year experience."

Thank you guys for your response. I recently got my CDL from Amazon since us jockeys will be doing more local lanes. I have a goal of becoming an owner op within the year, and Amazon is not going to help with that. My friend suggested the oil fields so I am going to try for that and hopefully something sticks.

Dont buy a new truck. Buy a cheap truck that will do the job. Remember to have enough money that was equalt to the cost of buying said truck in the bank. The biggest headache of buying a truck with new is the cost. Buy new if you won the lottery or if you still want that kind of work. Plenty of trucks avail around the 30k range.
