    Money isn't everything ! Really !

Money is nice but sometimes you just got to do what you want. Happiness does not have to be about money.

Weekends with friends and family, home cooked meals, the ability to take a day off if needed....

There is no way you are being offered double to get back on the road unless you are part time right now. Think about how your check is look like when you are on hometime. Local jobs are steady checks, not zigzagging like OTR. Unless you are one of those that hates their family and stays out for 7 months straight and tell you their life story at the "driver's lounge".

I went otr anf then I went local for a few months, it got boring to me an I was a company driver, but now I'm running southeast as an owner op an I love it I don't regret my decisions at all, plus I'm still young so I guess that could play a factor also, but I enjoy being on the road, I have very little bills to pay so I'm pretty much set but like the the good book everyone/every driver is different as far as preferences etc.

When I first started at the local job the pay and benefits were much better than they are now. I was getting a dollar more an hour plus about 15 more hours a week. Also the other job I was at was horrible, since I was essentially a rookie.

If I had a wife and kids, I wouldn't even consider going or. I'm only 25, and can be home every weekend with this job. My cousin has been driving for the or company for about 5 years, and averages about 400-500 more a week that. I get. Plus I can get rid of the apartment, and a lot of other expenses that come with a normal life

I did local for American Central Transport in Liberty, Missouri. I bought the house where I now live because it is very close to where I would go to work. At the time the job paid $16 an hour. The yard dog driver at Grainger made $22 per. ACT is a great family like company. I highly recommend them. However, local driving is all the bad things about truck driving with none of the good. The over the road guys would come in and drop the trailer in the yard. I would then have to pick it up and head to the caves to put it on the dock. Have you ever been in the caves in Kansas City? You really learn how to back there. Do that 4 times and hour. You arms and shoulders are shot from all the cranking and pin pulling. Yes, you get to sleep in your own bed, but after 16 hours what is the point. The wife looks good but the back hurts too much. Kids, shut up......I just want to sleep.

Back over the road and bigger pay check and I am in a much better frame of mind to enjoy my family.

That is of course just my opinion.

Some people might disagree with the wife part......from what I've heard on the CB.
