I've been with my current company a year (Sharkey). No vacation, no 401k, free insurance, option to go home every weekend and if I have a special event (birthday, anniversary etc) all I have to do is ask in advance and I get home. My main problem is I run the reefer division. The loads are sporadic at best. One week ill gross $1000 next week it will be $600. I've ran the numbers and my average NET IS $494 since January 1st of this year.

Ive been contemplating going to a company like k&b who offers guaranteed pay of $163 a day regardless if I run a load or not. It's a salary position. Basically home every other weekend.

I've looked at multiple multiple companies and the conclusion I've come up with us most company drivers make about $1000 a week gross no matter what company I've looked at. It might vary $50 company to company but its pretty close no matter where I look.

So I'm kinda at a loss as to what I should do. I have 3 years driving experience 2 years if reefers and 1 dry van. Been to every state. Ran teams with crst. Did reefer dedicated for Schneider in a target account. Now i pull reefer for Sharkey on Midwest regional account.

I have 5 kids and a baby on the way and a fiancé to support. Ive switched dispatchers, I've called the driver advocate and complained, I've complained to my new dispatcher all to no real avail. Sure it might get better for a week but I don't want to have to do this every week. It's tiring complaining all the time. Should I stay where I'm at and hope it gets better or look for a different company?

If I should move what companies do you recommend? I'll drive for anyone as long as the pay is consistent and I'm moving while I'm gone. I hate sitting. I'll run elogs, paper logs, autos, manuals, dry van, reefer I don't care.

$163/day guaranteed is nothing to scoff at. I'd be trying to find out how many guys are making over the minimum.

On that account you don't make more. It's a salary dedicated account. Don't matter if you run 50 miles or 500 you get $163 a day. Raise after 90 days.

I drive for k&b,there are strings attached to making that salary.I don't get paid salary so I have no idea exactly what the strings are but I do know for a fact there are strings. It goes something like this I think, even though you may be sitting for a day,you MUST be available for a load at any given time or day as long as you have the hours. You refuse then you get paid mileage pay for that week.

With 5 kids I would put numbers to what insurance would cost you, and what it would actually provide vs. what you have now. The difference could possibly be much more than the change in take home pay!

Thats it. Started with crst then went to Schneider then did local yard spot job then Sharkey. Had my CDL 4 years been OTR 3. Insurance is 118 a week for family. That includes medical dental and vision.
