Should I Move Over For Merging Traffic???

I suppose they recon I never move over, lol, that would kinda be like being a butt head, isnit?

 

I think people should appreciate when you help them, but they should not "expect" you to do for them what they can and should do for themselves, the rule still should be, it's there "job" to get on the highway, regardless of what I do, Jo Bernard

 

Now first I wanna say i'm a rookie to driving as well but..........I (in my opinion) think you said it right in regard to "as long as it is SAFE" , having said that i think because we drive a vehicle that possibly weighs 45,000.-90,000. lbs and (as looked at by saftey officers and DOT) WE are the Professional drivers, IT WILL ALWAYS BE LOOKED AT AS OUR FAULT REGARDLESS, So , if you stay in the right lane when even one car is going to merge your gambling on if that person is a responsible driver or not and from history more than likely their going to try to race in front of you because he or she thinks "they can make it" and that one time, because their vehicle Never stalls or they feel like they'll just sue if you hit them (even though the odds are that they won't make it), Your now gonna take the shiza because YOUR THE PREFFESSIONAL, just ask your saftey officer........he'll afirm believe me. My vote is always move over, then get over when you can, again i'm a rookie also but thats my stand, Trust no one.

 

I will move over if: I can safely do so and the person merging is actually trying to merge. If they are not signalling, not accellerating, not looking etc. I don't move.

 

I agree,but I also have the policy,If they show me courtesy by using a directional indicator,then if I can get over, I will.
Ive driven so many governed trucks that after you move over for them,these cars will ride along your right side an wont let you back over in the right lane.An these states that post signs TRUCKS USE RIGHT TWO LANES ONLY makes the problem worse.

 

i only move over when its safe to yes most on ramps have yield signs but it is a common practice to yield to lane traffic..

around tulsa here every on ramp has a yield sign but yet i still see lemmings under tractor trailers and in the sides of other cars.. dont be a lemming... i have no sympathy for lemmings

 

Son just got a ticket on jersey tunpike for lane voilation he moved over so right lane truck could move into middle lane and let a big truck that did not want to yeild coming on. state tropper was coming up in the hammer lane seen why they moved over and still gave him the ticket he told him he should have just stayed in the middle lane and let the truck entering hit the other truck.

There is some truth to that. I once read a statistic that most accidents(other than backing) occur at intersections and during lane changes.
However, I move over as a matter of courtesy, regardless of the type of vehicle.
I hear a lot of the "them" and "us" attitude on here. The guys that use the term "4 wheeler" as if it is a derogatory word.
Some of these are more recent CDL holders who have a superiority complex, conveniently overlooking the fact that just a few short years ago(or less) they exclusively drove a vehicle with 4 wheels.
I try to remember that every vehicle on the road is driven by somebody's son, daughter, mother or grandfather. That distracted driver that just cut you off could be a pediatric surgeon worried about his young patient, or a mother who just her son in Iraq.
Or he could be just a plain old inconsiderate jerk, but I still try to to give everyone equal allowance.

 

I like most of the other drivers will move over if and only if safe and not change speeds.

A few weeks ago I had a delivery in LA and leaving the receiver it was rush hour. This is where you see MOST if not all the idiot 4 wheelers. I was traveling in the granny lane, hammer lane was full of cars. we all were traveling at about 45 mph. Amazing in LA isn't it? In my right mirror I say some pick up truck in my lane tried to use the onramp acceleration lane as a passing lane to pass the 2 cars behind me and myself. At 45mph 1000 feet comes pretty quick. Well I was already at the point where the lanes became one and he was at the middle of my trailer. He then jammed on the brakes, skidded and hit the wall to the right.
