Good luck. I just accepted one also in Pa for Fed Ex Freight. But I am starting at the bottom as I have zero experience. Its more money than I am making in my current office job and I need the experience as a CDL holder.
Waiting for my background check also and then I guess drug test. Both will be fine. Did you get a start date yet?

    Chuckman73 Thanks this.

Not yet. I'm guessing everything will come back this week. Good luck!

You too. Can you keep me updated on your progress etc. I am presuming it will be a few weeks yet. I just accepted the position on Monday.

Dock work--especially at insanely busy, always-overcapacity yards--can suck the high hard one at times. There's always going to be stuff that gets annoying, but just remember, it's a means to an end. Once you're in the system, you'll learn about all the ins and outs of how things work, and where the best position for you is, and how to get there.

I went from a relay yard team operation(now no longer a factor), to a solo line run, to the worst "linehaul" job they have, to P&D at a yard 90 miles away, to the yard I currently work out of. It takes determination and patience, but you can find your dream job here if you're willing to be flexible.

I appreciate your advice. I don't look forward to the starting over again. I remember how much it sucks at times, but, like you said. .it's a means to an end. I received my call a couple of days ago. I've decided to go for it!
Put in 2 weeks notice at my current job. I have an official start date.

    Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this.

Can you tell me how long it took. I just finished my job last friday and as I am moving, I need a few days in-between so the timing is ok. How long notice did they give you for your start date?

They let me pick my start date. He understood that I wanted to offer 2 weeks notice to my current employer.
I plan on starting June 4. My terminal is hiring 4 drivers total. TM explained how important the start date is as far as seniority in this situation. So I may bail on current job a little earlier than originally planned.

That sounds really good. Now just waiting to get called for the drug test. Fingers crossed that I have time to do what I need to do before starting.

Congrats! You will probably be running to Effingham or Indy. Neither are bad but Effingham is real laid back.

    Chuckman73 Thanks this.
