So that makes you an expert on how to find customers? I did it twice it worked once, but then it didn’t?
Should rates be public?

Im 1 of the few that think the Regulated arteries of transportation, Kept things "Clean" and Organized beautifully- I Started after deregulation- But Studied it- And Understood the Bidding of Lanes and the Few carriers that got them.
A Deregulated Market is for The Strong and Smart only.Even so it can be a struggle.
Weak individuals with no business/negotiating skills get washed out.
Sorry,Im a fan of Brotherhood and NOT Every man for themselves....And Deregulation opened up the floodgates to every Tom,Dick and Harry to Twist the Freight game into a Frenzy.Tobytob Thanks this. -
It's always been cutthroat, there's always someone that will do it cheaper, but will they do it better.I don't think it would make much difference, that's the whole concept of free enterprise.Every Driver dreams of getting together and organizing,it will never happen, you can get 2 Drivers in a room and they can't agree on anything, let alone frieght rates, and letting the government in, they just follow the money and do what benefits them.
Lite bug Thanks this. -
Before deregulation , Rates were required to be published... It kept the throat cutting down...minus the wildcatters lol.
Now you have tools like DAT that can give you market averages for short or long term in a specific Lane based on payout history.
The DAT 15 day average is a very useful tool among others to gauge a lane and a good or bad market....
If you run produce, learn to use the USDA reports , etc to know the market before negotiation.

No they should not. You think a 1000 people a week are applying for authority now? Make the rates public
-
If the rates are public it would just make it that much easier for the next guy to say he can do it a penny cheaper
Lite bug, Humblepie and bryan21384 Thank this. -

BUT I disagree with you on a deregulated market for the strong, it isn't today.
TOO many owners run so thin of margins and have poor revenue that they undercut rates to get the work.
Many of them hold on to their existence, screw drivers over and then take the money and run.
I would like to see the brotherhood return as it was in the 60's, but just getting people on board to tighten up the licensing to the point that it does expect to have more than "is a wheel ... round, square, triangle" type questions on the test is hard enough, let alone start holding other drivers accountable for bad behavior is impossible.jamespmack and stayinback Thank this.
