Sometimes you have to charge back something that was the drivers fault. Smaller company where all the drivers know each other, keeps the rest on their toe's. You still have to eat alot of things, you can't(shouldn't)charge back every little thing that happens. You need to make them aware there are consequences for ignorant actions.

Boy, you guys should learn that a business has to be self sufficient. Otherwise, McDonalds might have to charge the employees for messed up orders and such.

Pathetic to say the least and poor business practice.

If it is their fault, you charge them for it....no question about it.

As far as the tire and rim, what did he say he hit??? It had to be something quite large to bend a rim. I would question if he didnt hit a curb....but you are stuck with the bill unless you can prove otherwise.

I dont think you can charge them unless you can prove either gross negligence or it was intentional.

    Not hardly.

This is just another abusive practice toward the driver.

According to you and others, it is okay for a company to charge the driver to idle the truck. After all, if they had not done it, aka, their fault.

Even if you an charge them unless you have their authorization to withhold it from their check it is illegal. you could always include a bill for the damages in the pay envelope but to just take the money is a no no

If you don't see something big enough to bedn a rim I'd call it distracted driving. I know we all have been guilty of it some just get caught.

I have seen things fly off a truck or a car in the dark and there is not always a way to move over. Sometimes, you have to hit it or wreck the truck.

I think maybe your taking this a lot further than we as owners are. My personal feeling about idling is, if I don't provide you with a way to stay comfortable[APU,Climacab] than I don't have a right to beetch about idle time when it's really cold or hot out. Now if it's 55-70 degrees out and you idle straight through we might have a convo about that, but like right now with temps down to single digits tonite, than yes I'm OK with it to a certain extent. By that I'm referring to a driver who would leave 6 hours early on a 3 hour run. IDK maybe he wanted to get away from the old lady :biggrin_2559:. But from my standpoint, really unnecessary.
