anyway jolsen,
Don't think of the CB antenna as omnidirectional. Because the radiation pattern for your CB antenna is dependent on the use of your truck, the radiation pattern is (pulled) toward the body of metal. Your truck is actually the acting radial.
So if you mount the antenna on your drivers side, you'll be pulling the signal "towards the ditch" and vice verse on passengers side.
I'm sorry if I'm not very technical with links, I'm not that advanced in radio tech yet. If I'm wrong, Bruce can correct me. (WA4GCH) Books can't cover what he knows.
ps Bruce.
I got your pm but the site won't let me pm you back. My call sign is KC8RVU. You can email me at pdubs@comcast.net when the spirit moves you. In the mean time, I'll work on my FIFTY REQUIRED POSTS. -
Easy way to put it. The signal reflects off the sheet metal of your truck, the largest area of sheet metal will cause the antenna to be directional on that direction.
So if you mount it on the left mirror your going to be directional toward the right rear of the roof top. Right mirror will be directional toward the left rear of the roof top. Co-phased because of the cancelling characteristics will cause it to be directional front to back being stronger out the front, with a null out the rear. A carotid pattern if you will, and depanding on the trailers you pull this is either helpful or harmful.
There is no correct or incorrect when it comes to co-phasing, depends on the rest of the setup including trailer.
I pull tankers (doubles) the best performing for me is a single antenna off the rear center of the front trailer, good to the rear and both sides but still stronger to the front.
When I pull a 48 or 53 that 13' or higher I get better results off the mirror mount co-phasing. So everything changes the setup.
Full speed ahead can you reduce the pix's a little. -
unlike most the others, i made my pictures "small", so that i'm not hogging the thread. If you do look, others posted much larger pics which I found to be a little irritating, but I'm sure they tried their best to get them in there to work.
I haven't read through much of what you two are talking about but, so far i haven't seen you make that request to anyone else that's posted as much.
Besides, why are you and Calve talking about something else other than showing your setup?
There is always "Private Messages". So, I think you're being a hypocrite in such a way as, you are asking me to not do something that this thread is posted for yet, you are posting long messages regarding a completely different topic which is, "Hi-Jacking".
Common sense bub. -
I liked your pics Full Speed Ahead. No worries, they were fitting.
I'd post my setup, but all I have is my camera phone. I'll try a bit later when it cools down. -

Full Speed nice looking radio. Hope it serve's you well.

I was in Kentucky the other day and I hit a skip on channel 22.
A base station was getting out and was bleeding over on channel 19. My radio easily picked him up and I switched to Channel 22 and was able to hear him loud and clear.
He was all the way up in Chicago calling out to the Bluegrass. I responded and right away he replied back acknowledging my transmission and he said I was coming in loud and clear.
Kentucky...Chicago. that's a #### good distance and even after our short conversation ended, I was still able to pick him up for an hour until the skip had ended. -
Problem solved. Disregard my setup in the pic excluding the ground. Positive should goto last bolt down.
