again, I will show ID if a customer asks to see it, but I am not leaving it with them. Not happening, I'll refuse the load first.

typically, your drivers license also has your SSN on it as well. and yes these "folks" have hacked into more system then I care to count and stolen more data then I care to imagine. I've also seen them seriously ruin the lives of people who have wronged them (perhaps the only reason I've never turned them in). One of the guys ruined the life and almost the career of a local cop who jacked over the guys sister when they broke up.

I agree, the hell with leaving my license somewhere. Did you know they were over 900,000 victims of identity theft pertaining to driver's license fraud last year nationwide. Basically what the thieves do is obtain your personal inofrmation and put their picture on a bogus license with your name and personal information. When they are stopped, they now change identities and have no worries because they are not getting the ticket etc. Huge problem that is going on as I type, not just on the East coast but all over the country. Spoke to numerous officers, Troopers etc across the country and they have definately seen a spike over the last few years to this type of crime. Basically the thieves are either illegal aliens, people that are suspended/revoked or wanted individuals that for a price of $1500-$4000 become someone else instantly and can now drive a vehicle "legally".

Several states will allow you to opt out of having your SSN on the CDL. MO dosen't require it. GA back in the mid 90's while I was instructing wound up having to drop the SSN (they also allowed you to have it removed) because the new system they had also used 9 numbers and we had several students whose DL Number was the same as someone else s SSN! They had to change the system to something else with more numbers! What a screw up!

I would check with your state and have the SSN removed and if they ask just tell them Identity Theft! I'm sure they already know the problems truckers have.

Nevada does that but the problem in that state you can take the driver license number and use a code to see the SSN. Alot of people know that code so it's just like giving your SSN.

this is a recent shift inpolicy in some states, but most still require your SSN, can't remember which states, but was told recently that some states are requiring SSN on your CDL if you have hazmat endorsement

Not sure about others but Indiana no longer puts SSN # on the license period. But as already mentioned every state is different. Regardless I still won't give my DL# because criminals have ways of getting things easy enough already.
