Thing is, what you describe is nothing but bullying, and deserves NO respect.

If you ask people NICELY to move to the back of the lot, that's one thing: EXPECTING it because you think you're the BAMF and your poo don't stink?? And using intimidation and threats of violence to get your way? That's pure bullying. It's uncivilized and brainless. And it doesn't wash in a modern civilized world, and needs to stop. Period.

Respect is earned, not expected or automatic by divine right. Do good things and the right things, and you'll earn respect. Run around bullying like a gangbanger, and you'll get nothing but derision and ignored.

Hit up a few antenna sites, freeantennas.com is great for fixing up a directional reflector to get some great signal gain.

    I still don't get it?
There are company drivers that treat theyre truck like its their own.
You can't paint in a whole generation of truckers as good,or bad.
I know/knew truckers from back in the day.Not all of em were fun loving
    swell guys you would trust.
You talk about respect, and the good ol days, but post about Montfront?
Bullying through, and providing self inflicted road justice,if you were in the way?
Screw that,on any level. There seems to be an idea that if you drive a faster truck,
or have been driving for x-amount of years were all supposed to bow down?

I move over when safe to do so,park where I can,and like, if I get there First.
My day started waay before Mr. self righteous drivers day did.If not,he would
be parked and settled in for the night in my spot.
Running people off spots, and lanes aint happening in my truck.
Sounds like some cb talk to me :biggrin_25518:

There was another driver that drove for SNI just recently that figured he was going to get fired when another driver/trainer turned him in for doing an illegal U-Turn, he quit first. I would not recommend parking on the the on-ramp of the interstate unless it is the last resort, 20 feet of snow and ice stopping you and 100 ft deep water.

There are many more truckstops and rest areas now than there were in 2008, even though they still load up fast after certain times.

Using google maps works great if you plot however miles you think you need to go and then see what cities are in between.

Do write down and keep track of spots you see, it maybe a Shell or Marathon, or other small spot in the middle of nowhere. I use a spreadsheet in EXEL, downloaded all the Pilots/Flying J's, Love's; sorted them out to states alpahbetically, then added info as I came across it, or cliff notes for truck washes etc.

I too plot and plan where the parking maybe for the run, at home though on my computer. I use www.findfuelstops.com. It does have stops that are not made for parking though, open a station up in a new window each time and it will also list Walmart (call 1st), weigh stations, Rest areas in the area, etc. All the stations will be put on the map with a red mark and you can see where something might be that you can use.

Also as much as people complain at Travel Centers of America (TA) and their charging for reserved parking, it has come in handy quite a few times for hubby, esp in the east. Just don't wait too late to reserve it if it is a busy area. You can do it over the phone, don't have to be there, just make sure you have the right one and can be there since your credit/debit card is zapped. It costs around $12-13, unless it is some special going on. The phone number to reserve a spot is 855-847-7275. This price does not cover the stations like in Jessup, MD where you have to pay for parking period to get into the parking area, get it back if you spend xxamt$ in store or buy fuel. It does not count on your rewards card either for showers, etc.

I believe most qualcomm's when you have E-logs now have the countdown counter on them for your break, but some people have been setting their alarm on the cellphone for xamt of hours out, then keep an eye out for a rest area/TS to stop at after it goes off, or if not too early you can stop if you see a welcome center if you cross over state lines. Just don't forget to get it in. If you need to stop at a T/S, findfuelstops will give you an idea of the main branded ones that might have parking during the daytime hours.

Cutting it close lastnight and luckily someone left the fuel stop he was supposed to fuel at where he had a home with maybe 30min left. Don't like doing that though and I was already trying to find the possible maybe last ditch place to park.

    Great advice!

Another great thing about Google Maps is the satellite view: it can show you exact layouts of anyplace, and show you possible pitfalls that are around. I use them all the time even as a school bus driver, so I can avoid getting stuck where I can't get out (because we're not allowed to back up).

reading these post reminds of some of those truck stops that always have spots (at least when I went there) and saying to myself YES! the perfect truck stop but then knowing that I'm leaving in 10 hours and most likely I wont be that lucky 2 days in a row.
