Here in Vegas it’s a union issue. If you run a rear discharge truck then you’ll need a laborer to run the chute. Where as in a front discharge truck, the driver is also the chute operator. It gives that 1 more guy a job and keeping them working.Qbf594 Thanks this.

They work really well when needing material dumped in low overhead spaces like bottom floors of parking garages, buildings, tunnels, low bridges, or powerline grids.

There is one fairly large family owned redi-mix company around here that has a dozen or so old Advance front discharge trucks still running around. Everyone else uses rear.

I've seen side dumps used on levee repair. They seem to do pretty good at it.

Any end dump can be a side dump with a dumb enough driver....
