Sidewall gouge

Looks superficial to me. With no cords seen or bulging I say run it.

If it did cut down to steel. Water will get in, rust will take over and the tire will eventually fail. If you lucky it will be after the treads gone.

 

That’s a junk tire now. Scrap it.

 

I'll say within a week, maybe even 3 or 4 days depending how heavy you are.........kaplooy.

 

That’s what I say too. So why wouldn’t you swap it out for a used tire to match up with inside one, when you are at a tire shop on your own power, instead of paying 600-1000 for a road side service call. I call that preventive maintenance.

 

This truck I have now came with 4 garbage recaps.

Two already blew. I loaned the truck to someone before I really put it hard on the road....he did local.

He blew one the first day and replaced it with a garbage Love's recap.

I blew one on the opposite side, same axle, and the other was separating. This happened like 2 miles from a TA so limped in.

Got two new drives.

I was going to swap some rubber with the old truck.

I've been out longer than I thought, and right now I'm 79.2K.

The new Love's recap was starting to go, so got two more new ones.

Now all good. We get a huge discount on tires as well.

Same line of thought you have. If that POS goes 100 miles from nowhere, I'm in it for a used tire for the same cost as 2 new one's, and still haven't solved the problem.

 

It don't look bad. Seen much worse than that. Doesn't look like its to the cords. Its your ship though.

 

It’s hard to tell how deep it is. Or if it’s a cap. I’m guessing it just happened, and isn’t a repaired recap, or booted on the inside. That’s a bad spot, right where tire flexes. I don’t think I’d trust it. Might run it though, till I could get a decent one. No need to panic.... yet!! Lol

 

I’ve always been a believer of when you need two drives, or 4, you do all 8. Just my opinion.
