Because motor skills are compromised in high stress situations. Same reason I carry a DAO Springfield XD, and not a 1911.

I'm not worrying about safeties, or chambering a round. Long, heavy trigger pull, and a grip safety. It's safe

 

How often does that happen though? Not saying its right or wrong, just trying to understand. We could never carry handguns up here so it just seems really odd to me to be walking around with to begin with, much less with one in the chamber.

 

Never needed it, and never want to.

 

Most attacks are initiated at very close quarter. Often sneaking up from behind. Grabbing arm and possibky a head lock.
And this is the important thing to remember, the attacker is trying to incapacitate the victim as fast as possible. The victim is the 2nd person to know what is happening and has very little time to react. VERY Little Time

I always keep 1 in the chamber of my 1911, But then its not a Sig, Certain models of Sig have a rep for self firing. How and why don't know, but most police and military do not carry them any more because of the issue.

 

Come spends some time in Southern Cal you might have a change of heart. The response time in easternb Kern COunty for Police can be over 15 minutes, too long to wait.

 

I like my Clock and my 1911, I have no problems carring them loaded with a round chambered. Don't know why you would not have a round chambered.

 

Up here in BFE you'd be lucky to even see a cop within an hour or 2.
