Sometimes a governed truck needs to pass a much slower truck. What's wrong with that? Should I have to putt along at 55 mph so you can go 70? A vehicle going too fast for conditions is a hazard as well, BTW.

In 45 and 55 mph zones Schneider trucks are usually the fastest ones passing all the others

I've heard similar from my hubby about the governed trucks in construction zones.

When (the late) Pat Quinn was ATA chairman in '06 pushing for speed limiters EVERY one of his U.S. Xpress trucks I saw in OH was exceeding the 55 mph speed limit passing other trucks . I complained to OHP then complained to FMCSA . A couple of months later USX was audited , fined for document falsification , and given a deficient rating in Safety Management .
NHTSA was requesting comments on the speed limiter and I commented Quinn better get his own house in order before telling other fleets how to run theirs .

    Nice comment about Quinn!

Personally, I don't think any truck should be governed, but if they are going to do it, then they shouldn't be governed below the highest speed limit in the country. I'm not going to drive faster than I feel comfortable at, and that's usually close to the speed limit, it's just nice to know the extra is there if it's needed.

If 'the flow of traffic' is faster than the posted speed limit, then 'the flow of traffic' is going to have to deal with me being an 'obstruction'. Because I will be at the posted speed limit in my lane of choice.

It's too bad cops don't enforce "obstruction" laws on ANY vehicle that is creating an obstruction. Slower traffic is suppose to keep right. It's that "lane of my choice" mentality that helps give trucking a bad name as much as the "highballing truck" going way too fast for conditions.

Aren't you a little old to be a part of the 'all about me generation'?

    Atleast you admit it though.

Bottom line: If you're disregarding the law by exceeding the posted speed limit, then you must yield to those who _are_ obeying the law. If you choose to exceed the posted speed limit and kvetch about those who obey the law, then it is YOU who are part of the "all about me" mentality.

    OtatKen Thanks this.
