They weren’t paying attention to their cash requirements and their rate of return, the most basic part of banking, but I instead were focused on “empowering women” and other ESG nonsense.

They could have sold some treasuries over 4-6 months without a problem. Instead they sold a giant lump of them all at once at a *huge* discount which told the world they were in deep financial trouble.

How do you know the first part?

I would put more of the blame on them trying to expand aggressively, not having a properly constituted and staffed risk office, and not having adequate capitalization.

They could not sell over 4-6 months because they could not meet the minimum capitalization thresholds to service their customers, let alone meet regulations.

Their actions prove it. No one does a huge, quick, steeply discounted treasury sale unless they need the money. Investors saw that and spoke to friends with money in the bank sparking the bank run.

You say that as if it proves your point. It doesn’t. It proves mine.

We agree they made some dumb decisions- where we don't is how "wokeness" came into play. I don't see any progressive agenda let alone wokeness in their investment plan. I do see massive under capitalization that left them vulnerable to market shifts and a delay in responding to that market shift.
