Simple paper logs without recap column & etc

    There is a little print ship in my hometown that did mine. I'm sure there's places online that can do it. I bet JJ Keller does it to. Isn't that who always calls soliciting compliance stuff?

    I lived my OTR life running recap. I always wanted to know how much time I had so I could plan accordingly.

    I’ve always used the simple ones. If I need to check my recap, I do it on a separate piece of paper. Loose leaf logs, regular with carbon paper. I don’t use the carbon paper. Only need one copy for my records. I do keep previous 8- 12 days always in the book. 9 through 12th day gets put “on file” .

    Still running DDL on my laptop. They pulled support for it and no longer update it but as long as my laptop lives I'll be using DDL. It automatically figures the recap but I don't pay much attention to it as I haven't needed my full compliment of 70 hours in over a decade now. I can't believe guys are still filling out paper logs. You can do them on a laptop in a fraction of the time it takes you to scribble out the lines on paper. Much cleaner and neater too. I had an officer a few weeks ago ask me if I had logs and I told him yeah, on my laptop let me boot it up. He said no, don't bother, it's good to know you have one. Haha!

    I never did recaps, even when employer demanded I just told them NO,,,its not law and I'm not a volunteer. I do like Elogs,,had them for a few months. Faster to tally up my gruelling 8 hour shift but you can see how circle checks are not completed since you don't even have to walk to rear of trailer to see license plate,,,or count the tires.

    Recaps aren’t mandatory, just helps if you run a lot and helps you to know how many hours you have left.

    Paper logs,,,:laughing-guffaw:, oh mercy, that takes me back. You know, this industry, no wonder comedians have a field day, as far as we've come, something from the 40's is still acceptable. My 1st boss, we ran around the clock, when I asked, how are we supposed to log all this,,,my bosses reply, "don't worry, you can get it real close with a pencil". I never did a recap either, never understood the logic, they had the wrong group to use the honor system when it came to paper logs. For the 1st couple years ( late 70's, early 80's) we folded logbooks in half and slammed them in the Macks doors to prevent rattling. The boss would say, "we haven't gotten a log from you in 2 weeks, do some scratching",,,total BS, but it was no big deal. Weighmasters back then were usually old troopers fixing to retire soon, so they stuck them in a scale, we saw them everyday, they knew the trucks, tell you "catch up" round back,,,they left, and I'd leave, like I say, it was no big deal.
