Thanks IP. You're probably right about the paranoia but I never check bags whether its a bus or a plane. I learned to make everything (up to 2 weeks worth of clothes and a suit one time!) fit in that one bag so it will fit in an overhead bin or under the seat. Been doing it like that for almost 20 years.

Well keep in mind that you're going on a bus, and that cabin storage space is even more limited in a bus than on an airplane. EVERYONE is trying to stuff things into that overhead... so save yourself some trouble and check the laundry - chances are they're not going to let you put anything that large in the passenger area anyway. Your bag isn't going to disappear into a tunnel. You're going to hand it to the guy who puts it on the bus, at the side of the bus. And you're probably going to tell him which bag is yours when he pulls it off.

    Dennis the Menace Thanks this.

    Hi Gator...

Well, I'm planning on driving my POS down there... if I have too much clothing I can always store some in the trunk :) If the car gets broken into or stolen, eh... more power to them :) I'll just have to replace what I lost.

Hey CT, have you decided on a date yet or still trying to get a handle on things at home before you decide?

    Hi Dennis...

Um, I can't answer that right now as something else (major) has come up and I don't know what I'm doing... wish I could answer you though, cause I need an answer :(

I was supposed to leave in early June myself. My delay has been due to the issues of my kids not really happy with the idea of me leaving for that two month initial trip. I am hoping closer to school starting that it will make a difference. I have been a stay at home dad working from home for the past five to six years so having Dad not around will be a huge change. I also started working with a buddy doing some construction work so the kids have not had me home every day the past month so I hope that in addition helps with the transition.

Definitely understand. My daughter is used to me taking her to school daily, attending all of her school programs, and just being "around". I had a job that was pretty flexible so it was very convenient. Right now, she's not too happy about me leaving either. Especially since I will miss her birthday... But I have to do what I have to do to make sure she has what she needs so I try to explain it to her that way. It's going to be tough for both of us because we are so close but I have to think about the big picture...

I am with Dennis the menace on the bus thing. I have taken the bus 3 times and all 3 times they lost my luggage the last time i never got it back nor did they pay me for the lost stuff. I was going to a graduation and had no clothes. was supposed to meet my parents and my dad got sick, so they didnt come. One of my kids took me to a second hand shop so i could get some clothes. but need less to say i am thinking about having family drive me up or drive myself up, it is only like 4 hours for me so not a big deal but at least i have my stuff. Do they allow students to drive themselves?
