We should realized that transportation automation is way different than say automation in the manufacturing, or bank teller automation, or order taking automation..etc..etc! There’s a lot of external factors that would involve in transportation automation like other vehicle with driver on the roads, weather, sudden changes in traffic conditions and many more. The other automation I’ve mentioned were inside a building where external factors are minimized if not removed for the smooth operation.

As a young man, I would advise you to learn how to install and maintain automated systems. Join your favorite favorite branch of the military, get some experience behind you. You will have a much higher quality of life with a career that is in growth mode. You can always drive a truck later on after you have been successful in life if you still desire. Don't waste your youth sitting in somebody's truck 25 days a month.

Autonomous trucking is only for the wealthy. At half a million per truck it will take a while before your job is threatened

I doubt very highly it’ll ever come to full implementation. Take a look at a province like Ontario. Interstate like hwys in the south. Nothing but two lane roads in the north. Hell, try driving from Dryden Ontario to fort francis, Ontario/international falls, mn. Chip and tar road. No lines. Barely a shoulder. Would love to see a driverless truck there. Never gonna happen.
