But hypothetically if receiving station is a mobile vehicle( with optimum antenna setup) with a stock Cobra 29, no modifications to receiver, do you think that station would notice a significant difference between a dual final radio and a single final radio ( both aligned not modded) from say 10 to 15 miles away, both radios in identical vehicles with identical antenna setups. Just your , or anyone elses thoughts.

4 watts, or 80 watts., whatever. .Doesn't make any difference what the configuration of the finals happens to be, as long as it's clean. What type of tuning improves the SNR on the receive end? That's the 64k question.

I'd go so far as to ask how to achieve that result without hurting the dynamic range of the receiver.
This video clearly demonstrates the dynamic range is pretty impressive considering my friend in California was slamming Jason's needle and Jason could hear him just fine as well as being able to distinguish my 4 watt signal at that 45 mile distance with a couple mountains in between us.

I for years bought into the hype that you have to have a loud 10 meter/ export dual final radio to be heard, some of my early purchases that were mistakes were buying a couple radios from GI Joes and installing a swing kit, they were loud alright for about 5 miles, I later had the swing kit removed and much to my surprise other drivers actually replied back to me, and lo and behold my range increased, well live and learn.

For people that want Echo it's cheaper to buy an export radio that has it included as opposed to adding it to a Cobra 29. The funny thing is when I was running Coast to Coast most of the radios that I heard the furthest were stock Cobra 29's unmodified and the guys that spent the most amount of money were usually the ones that disappeared out of my receiver first.

The Stryker 447 has echo built in. It wasn't something that was on my "must have" list. I've played with it a bit, and I agree with Rabbi...just the slightest touch adds a bit of presence, but 99% of the guys don't understand that and crank it up to the point where they're nearly unintelligible. My 447 has far more than enough output. I'm just trying to come up with a rig/antenna combo that gives me maximum down the road range in a balanced fashion. If I wanted to talk to California, I have the ability to do so legally without all the fuss and bother. I just want to know if I need to reroute to avoid a headache, thus the choice of a rig to add as a supplement the Alinco VHF/UHF radio. I've been a ham for 54 years, running HF mobile for many of them, and VHF mobile for most, but getting a decent road report in the middle of an ice storm is not ham radio's forte. When the SHTF, I want to talk to the drivers.

I would wager to guess dual finals are for 2 reasons:
    1. Make you have the warm fuzzies by having 40 watts vs 16
    2. To drive an amp, as a 40 watt final has an easier time of driving something like sy a 4 pill amp vs 16 watts.
