I would attach a bracket to the rear of the cab to elevate the antenna above the roof and then feed the cable in through a hole under the sleeper

I broke down and bought a cascadia cb radio antenna mount with the mushroom antenna. Hooked it up on the passenger side. Having problems picking up signal when driving N or NW now because the antenna isn't high enough to get signal with the truck blocking it. One problem into another.

Saw a driver with the window mount for the mushroom antenna - anyone have a link to where I can find that on the web?

Again. Stick it on top of either of the Cascadia mirrors and you'll get reception 99% of the time. Use quality 3m double sided or body tape and it'll stay put.

Another solution is to buy a cheap 4 foot fiberglass antenna and an "angle mount" plate and drill holes in the plate to accommodate 2 U bolts to fasten plate to top of antenna stick, then put the magnetic XM antenna on the plate and use black tape every 6 inches to keep coax tight coming down the stick. Of course mount the antenna stick to the perch mount you've already got.

I'll try and help you with this again you have to buy a bird perch drill the holes so it'll bolt on where the passenger side downward looking mirror On Top of the passenger side door and then you take and clamp that 10 or 12 inch mushroom top Antenna On it and run the cable in the door and down across the dash I guarantee this will work and you will always have reception no matter which way you're going and for all the smart ##### unless you're going through a tunnel... they sell the bird perch CB antenna mount at almost every CB shop for about $10 any shop will drill the holes a little bigger to fit where that downward mirror mounts

There is NO WAY to mount an XM antenna where it will not cut out in at least some places. We have factory mount antennas on top of full roof Cascadias and they will still cut out in some places, typically when on the north side of a hill/mountain where all the foliage is out and near the road, and the further north and east you go, the more you can expect some signal cut-out ... add in snow/ice/rain in the air or foliage and it's worse, still.

I should also preface this with the fact we are also using factory radio with integrated XM and these have an almost non-existent buffer so many bridges will cause a temporary cut out.

Well first of all on a mountain it can block the signal a radio is no different than a telephone how come your phone can work inside the truck but you're telling me a radio signal can't pass through the truck you're high

Huh? We're not talking about "radio signals" when talking about needing clear sight to an orbiting satellite. SMH

Well it is a radio signal that comes from that satellite to that antenna Freightliner ran a piece of metal above the windshield all the way across the top and yes that does affect it that's why if you mount one of those 10-inch antennas 2A bracket on top of that downward mirror above the passenger door it takes care of the problem other than mountains or in tunnels actually blocking the signal

The only reason an antenna will "sort of" work when you throw it up on the dash or something is due to stray reflected signals that exist here and there. Point is, the higher and further away from the vehicle body, and the closer to the center median you can get your antenna, the better the signal reception, in most common terrain scenarios. Period. But my previous point was that on top of the driver side mirror would satisfy all but the most demanding satellite radio listener and it only costs $4 for the cost of some good 2-sided body moulding tape and the included magnetic antenna puck.

2 sided tape works great. So far have been lucky and have avoided the 110 degree weather.
