The course I went through was a 4 hour course. It was put on by the state of Michigan through their Michigan center of truck safty. As far as I know you have to drive or be a student of a trucking company/ school in the state of Michigan. The cost was 25.00 wich I thought was cheap.

I heard everyone goes through the skid pad at Schneider's training. Anyone know anything about that? Did I even hear right?
-
Don't know about Schneider, but CFI also gives skid pad training at Crowder College, which is a requirement for student drivers.
-
It was that way when I went threw Schneider.... Everybody went threw the skid pad training... i herd a roomer that they was considering removing it from the curriculum and replace it with the simulator.. Not sure if they ever did that.. I know everybody told them that there is no way a simulator would ever replace the real thing...
-
I believe I read on Schnieders site, and some posts on here some where, that they are using the simulator now. They've removed the skid pad.
-
Now that you two mention it, I do recall seeing somewhere that they're using a simulator now. Kind of a shame really.
-
Yes in Charolotte at least you use the simulator. There are two sims for ir which they used on us. One is the classic skid pad simulated -- a sheet of ice. The instructor is able to press a few buttons in order to induce a skid of various types and you must maneuvor your way out of it. (used to teach the reference point as I recall)
The other is on a mountain pass simulating a real driving experience. They are able to induce the skids the same and the program will also automatically induce skids itself in relation to how you drive.
When I took it I couldn't believe how easy it was. Now I've never had the real thing in an 80,000 lb loaded truck, but it seemed hard to believe it was that easy to get out of the skid. I bet the real skid pad is quite different?
