    I find every time I back out of it, the idiot trying to merge does the same thing and its a stalemate. If I have room to move over, I will. If they're a ways ahead, I slow down. If they're beside me I just keep going.

    If you got into the accident you were describing, you would have been sitting on the shoulder waiting for johnny law to show , filling out an accident report, calling your co, late on your pick-up and thinking, "gee, if only I had let the 4 wheeler beat me".

    Just to throw another old guy's opinion in here to second what others have said: you should never make a move that depends on another's reaction to complete safely. Always assume they will make the worst possible move.
