I also recommended you let someone else go first if you are nervous or unsure about the maneuvers. That way you can watch and learn a little bit before you go.

Im scheduled for orientation with MTC in Phoenix the week of Oct7. Will be doing the western 11 dry van side. I know that their trailers are all 53 feet. The trailers at my school were 27 & 28 feet. Last time I drove was Aug 13 for my DMV test. Any suggestions for my skills & road test?

As far as I have gathered from other drivers use as many GOALs (Get Out And Look) as possible, don't worry/rush, and, according to my recruiter, if you haven't used a 13 speed let them know as they will offer some help/advice. I have my skills/road test and orientation on October 1 so I will post more info after I'm done out there.

When doing the Drive Test .. Just Relax, you passed the DMV .. Tell them you are not familiar with a 13 Speed, they will tell you to drive it like a 9 Speed (No splitting gears) ... Look in yer mirrors as you drive.
Skills test .. Take yer time, relax .. GOAL .. Get Out And Look as many times as you want, it's what they are looking for you to do. -
Dumb questions...what's a "Jersey turn"
Thanks

I believe it's a jughandle turn, predominantly to the left (can be a right as well) HOWEVER I have been known to be wrong.

The trucks at school were 10 speeds. 5 gear pattern w/ the splitter.

13 speeds have two splitters .. You will drive it basically like a double 4 speed ..blwjr Thanks this.
